Dr. Michael Schmid holds a degree in physics and is a patent attorney and professional representative before the European Patent Office, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and European Patent Litigator (UPC). He is a partner in the law firm Richardt Patentanwälte (patent attorneys).

Dr. Michael Schmid studied physics at the University of Stuttgart (Germany) with a focus on plasma and surface physics. He subsequently received his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart in the field of nuclear magnetic resonance investigations of nano-technological materials, rer. nat. ("very good"). He conducted researches for many years at the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Solid State Research (Stuttgart, Germany) in the team of Prof. Klaus von Klitzing (Nobel Prize 1985). Besides a one-year research stay in France, Dr. Michael Schmid worked for a long time as a Postdoc at a renowned university in the USA in the field of the development of nano-technological, multi-functional contrast agents of magnetic resonance imaging.
