Dr. Julius S. Cohen is a European patent attorney.
He studied physics ant the University of Groningen and part of his master-research in theoretic statistical physics was published in the reputable journal ‘Communications in mathematical physics’. His doctoral thesis at the University of Amsterdam was ‘On the kinetic theory of the one-component plasma’. Subsequently, at Philips Research he was involved in quantum optics, semiconductor laser dynamics and computer simulations of semiconductor materials. After that, with Philips Intellectual property Dr. Cohen worked as an in-house European patent attorney on patent matters in the field of diagnostic imaging, in particular magnetic resonance imaging. Dr. Cohen has decades of extensive experience as an in-house IP counsel on patent drafting and prosecution, IP risk analysis and patent filing strategies. He participated in the case law on the interpretation of Art. 53(c) EPC (G01/04, G01/05 on the scope of the exclusions of diagnostic and therapeutic methods) and on the public availability of documents on the internet (T1553/06).
